Puppy school
Puppy school is a very important part of your puppy’s life, it’s about socialisation and basic training. Here at Payneham Vet Centre we offer classes which are run by our highly certified trainer Susanne Eckert. Our classes run one night a week, for 5 weeks, usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
The program aim:

- Understand how dogs learn and to use the least stressful way to communicate for your puppy and your family.
- To inform you about the use of reinforcers in training your puppy and to inform you of the variety of reinforcers that can be used (verbal, food, toys, life rewards).
- To instruct you on the use of these methods to teach your puppy basic manners (sit, look, drop, leave-it, give, wait, go to bed, settle, walk on a loose lead).
- Understand the importance of resource guarding in puppies and how to prevent/manage it
- Understand the importance of reinforcing calm behaviour in puppies, and teach how to settle your puppy.
- To provide you with strategies for managing and teaching toilet training to your puppy.
- To provide you with strategies to replace undesirable behaviours such as mouthing, chewing on inappropriate items, jumping up, with appropriate behaviours.
- To provide a safe environment for your puppy to socialise with other puppies and people and become accustomed to different surroundings, sights and sounds.
