Our Story: A Clinic Built on Compassion, Community, and Connection
Payneham Veterinary Centre has been part of Adelaide’s eastern suburbs for more than 25 years. The clinic began as Avenue Road Veterinary Clinic, founded by Dr Roberta Reid, who built South Australia’s first purpose-built veterinary clinic and cared for both large and small animals. After passing through the hands of several respected veterinarians, Dr Jon Carruthers purchased the clinic and welcomed Dr Kylie Jopson in 1998. Dr Kylie quickly became a familiar face in the community, known for her thoughtful, thorough approach.
In partnership with Dr Jon Carruthers, a qualified veterinary behaviourist, the clinic moved to Payneham in 2001 and became Payneham Veterinary Centre. In 2019, we settled into our current purpose-built clinic on Portrush Road, designed to offer a modern, comfortable environment for pets and their families.
Today, our clinic blends decades of veterinary experience with up-to-date facilities, a caring team, and the same friendly, community-minded ethos that has guided us from the very beginning.
